Ep. 5: Find Your Path, Create a Movement with Larissa Lam

Larissa Lam is a twenty-year veteran of the music industry and is a successful singer and songwriter of dance pop music. Her latest single, “I Feel Alive,” won the Hollywood in Media Award and the Akademia Music Award for best song. Her fourth solo album “Love and Discovery” is now a movement for empowerment and mental health, starting the #IFeelAlive campaign with PSA’s for Suicide Prevention Month, sharing mental health resources and more. She’s performed across the country, has had songs placed in TV, movies and video games, and has also released a documentary with her husband, Finding Cleveland, about Chinese immigrants during Mississippi’s segregation and Chinese Exclusion Act era. Larissa shares her unique experience as an Asian American in the music business and best practices of how to get a head start in high school, college and more.

Ep. 4: Discovering Your Authentic Artist with Sonnet Simmons

Sonnet Simmons is an immensely talented artist, an award-winning singer songwriter, and a keen player in the music industry. From a high-profile start as a featured contestant on ABC’s reality singing competition series Rising Star, Sonnet has performed with Kamasi Washington and Miles Mosley at the Hollywood Bowl, and has had her songs placed in top-tier ad campaigns like Coca Cola and Overstock.com. Now Vice President of Catch the Moon Music, Sonnet shares her journey of discovering her authentic artist within and channeling that success towards ever-higher goals within the industry, all while helping fellow indie artists do the same.

Ep. 3: Creating Opportunities in the Industry with Angela Jollivette

Angela Jollivette, a.k.a. DJ Moonbaby, is the epitome of work ethic and focus when it comes to creating a path in the music industry. She began her music career as one of the top female DJs in Los Angeles, then transitioned to the Recording Academy/The Grammys, setting off a decade career run in the the Gospel Music Category and TV and Film divisions. Now with her own music supervision/production company, Moonbaby Media, she oversees the music for Greenleaf, OWN’s hit gospel TV show, continuing to innovate and provide exposure for up-and-coming hit artists.
