Suzanne “Suz” Paulinski is the founder of The Rock/Star Advocate, a music business coaching consultancy who takes a specialized approach to her work. She calls herself a “mindset coach,” who helps her clients achieve a better work/life balance and to find clarity around their goals. With the endless, 24-7-365 onslaught of social media and other demands required of the indie artist/musicpreneur in the new music landscape, this type of coaching, support, and focus on mental health are quickly becoming essential tools required to survive (and thrive). On this music careers episode, Suz walks us through her career trajectory, becoming one of the first graduates of Drexel University’s music business program, then working at record labels, to pivoting into counseling and mental health. Zac Harding is a self-professed “engineer rat”, starting from the world-renowned studio once owned by Bruce Swedien in Minneapolis, working with the Replacements and Prince(!!) and making the move to Los Angeles. In fact, his engineer experience helped him land the Director of Marketing position at Songtradr (more on that in the interview!) Zac talks about his transition from the recording studio to marketing, the licensing resources and financial opportunities that Songtradr offers to artists, why this is the best time to be an independent musician, why it’s so important to make goals for your music career, and what tools and innovations are available to artists to succeed.
Excited to kick off 2018 with Kat Leon and Nick Perez, from the band Holy Wars. Former members of the band Sad Robot and quickly becoming favorites of the indie scene (named on Huffington Post’s Best of Music List in 2017,) Kat and Nick share about their careers in music and the evolution of their sound. When personal tragedy threatened to sideline their momentum, the band experienced rebirth and resolve which pushed them towards a new path of imagery, sound and focus, and continues to gain fervent fans all along the way.
We’re ending 2017 with a terrific guest, Chase Bradley – a.k.a. Chase Flow. Chase is a rap artist who has toured around the US and beyond with other high-profile artists and groups. Never one to rest on his laurels, he’s also a songwriter, beats maker, producer and film composer, up-ing his music career making music on everything from longtime soap The Young and The Restless to hit movie Ride Along starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube. Chase talks about his career trajectory from Philly to Los Angeles, building relationships and actively seeking next-level opportunities all along the way.

Tim Hare, Director of Operations at Alibi Music Library, has had several career journeys in music, and he’s just warming up. After playing in the local Boston scene with bands Baby Strange, Aloud, and The Painted Lights at the ripe old age of 19, he toured the UK for a few years before returning to the US and attending Berklee College of Music. Post-graduation, he worked for Warner Music Group doing VIP Concierge tours with Wiz Khalifa, Smashing Pumpkins, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and Mac Miller, then moved to LA, working in production and day to day management for Mick Jones of Foreigner. Now working at Alibi Library and a freelance composer, his music has appeared in promos for ABC and CBS shows, as well as the short film ‘Charlie’. He talks shop about playing, touring, creating, working for rock stars, how to network, getting your foot in the door of that next music job and getting yourself out there, no matter what.
Louis Tanguay is the founder/creator of Section 3 Music Magazine, one of the first global online music publication brands. He interviewed rock bands and celebrities like Faith No More, Weezer, Method Man, Gwen Stefani, and more. In this episode, Louis shares his experience of moving to Los Angeles to work at entertainment industry giants like Universal, and his decision to evolve his independent streak by founding Circle Marketing, a full service marketing agency and one of several successful business ventures he has created.
